Stats

Josh had his 4-month checkup this morning (yes, he is a week and a half away from 5 months... the doc's office is quite a bit behind... not thrilled...) and here are his latest stats:

16 lbs, 14 ozs
26 inches long
5 shots!

He didn't cry after the first shot, so I thought all would be fine. His started WAILING (instant red face, crocodile tears) after the second shot. I cried a little too. :(

Tonight Dave and I are going to my Bank party at the Samoset. It'll be the first time we've left Josh with someone besides his grandparents. Josh will be with Auntie Melissa, Paul and Kineo, who are practically family anyway, so I'm sure everything will be fine.

So proud of my little honey pot!

Good news - Josh slept from 7pm last night until just after 4:30am this morning. Gotta say, I'm loving our new routine. Let's just hope this continues.

In other news, I think I'm getting/have a stye in my eye. Anyone got any remedies for me?

Josh and Tobey pic

This is from March 9th. Aren't they both adorable? We've tried several times to get a photo of Josh curled up with Tobey but each time Tobey freaked out like "why is the crying, wiggly thing on me?!?!" but this time they both acted very photogenic. Don't mind all the dog hair on the futon...

On the sleep front--we're making headway. The past 3 nights (tonight included) we've had a routine of bath, jammies, lotion/massage legs, calm down (reading, talking softly), nurse, bundle in fox blanket, pacifier, wave music, in bassinet with green soft blanket. And he's gone right to sleep. We've been starting all this routine around 6:30 and by 7pm he's asleep. Let's hope this continues. Naps have still been a problem for Nana Joan, but hopefully I can make some headway in the nap department this weekend.

Tired (still)

It's Sunday night, I should feel rested and ready for the week. Riiiiiiight. I'm exhausted. It's been a rough weekend. Today I basically had a mental breakdown. I can only take so much screaming before I feel like jumping off a bridge. All I can do is hope that it will get better. Just a few weeks ago I remember having this amazing weekend and being so grateful for the wonderful weekend after not seeing Josh all week because of work. He was just so adorable and sweet. I don't know if he's teething or if it's just a stage, but there weren't too many "sweet baby" moments this weekend.

Happy Birthday, Tobey! Tobey is 3 now! I have a cute pic of Tobey and Josh that I need to upload--not tonight though.

So what's new?

It's March! Happy March everyone!! Joshua will be FOUR months old on Sunday. I wish I could say that I've been working diligently on our issue with sleeping, but I cannot. I've been sick since Monday night. It came on really fast (really fast--like I was fine as of Monday when I went to bed, but woke up at 1pm puking...) and missed part of the work day Tuesday (though I should have stayed home altogether) and all day Wednesday. Luckily, Grammy Ri came over to take care of both me and Josh since I was unable to take care of either of us! Big THANK YOU's to Grammy Ri--you saved the day!! I went to work today, though I haven't felt great. I'm really glad I have tomorrow off as part of my regularly scheduled week. I plan on napping with Josh, which brings me back--after much rambling and whining--about sleep.

(Don't worry--much more rambling to come!!)

Precious sleep. Of course the ONE night that I should have gotten the best sleep ever, I didn't because I was up puking.... Josh went to sleep at 8pm and slept until about 3am--which is soooooo awesome, except I was up from 1am-2:45am throwing up and hadn't fallen back asleep yet when Josh woke up to eat, so I was up from 1am-4am, then stupidly drove to Ellsworth for work.... anyway, back to sleep, more specifically, Josh's sleep. Dave and I have learned that Josh keeps waking himself up by startling himself, so we've started "bundling" him again like they do in the hospital. We stopped doing this a while ago, maybe when he was a month or so old because he kept getting himself out of the bundle. With this one particular fox blanket, we can still do the bundle and that's what we've been doing at night. We've had success with this too. Last night, he slept for 5 hours, then woke up to eat, then back to sleep for another 3 hours. Not ideal, but better than getting up 4 times each night and ending up sleeping in our bed. Another thing that has been working is his "wave machine" which is this machine kinda like a radio that makes white noise. Some of the noise options are rain, heartbeat and waves. He seems to like the waves the most. I kinda like it too. Daytime sleeping is challenging and something we've been unable to get a handle on. Like today, Josh took five 30-minute naps. I just don't see how that can be restful for him. Wednesday, Grammy Ri witnessed him bad nap habits. He only slept once for an hour straight, then a couple of times for 30 minutes each. One time, I was going to nap with him in our bed and we'd been laying there for about 30 minutes when he woke himself up by sneezing and would not go back to sleep. He'll fall asleep but the second he hits that crib, he's awake. This is definitely our biggest battle. And then there's my milk. Since I've been sick, I've had some trouble making milk.... maybe FMI, so feel free to skip this part, but I'll try to keep it simple: can't keep down fluids, milk is fluid, need to drink plenty of fluids to make milk. Anyway, a baby with a full belly is a baby that sleeps better, so it's definitely not helping that I'm sick.

And if you really read all that rambling--I commend you! Hopefully I'll feel well enough to post some photos of a sleepy boy sometime this weekend.
